Welcome to 8th Grade Science!
This year we will be learning about our Earth's atmosphere, weather and climate; its history including fossil record and geological time. We will also learn about the rock cycle, plate tectonics, earthquakes, volcanoes, mountain building, seafloor spreading, weathering, erosion and deposition. Then we will learn about our solar system, stars, galaxies and the explorations to outer space. And how will we learn all of this? ....With labs, activities, projects, research and reading scintillating pages of vastly exciting information that will astound the imagination to know that all of this is right outside our doors.
All students will have FCAT Vocabulary Homework once a week using the Frayer Vocabulary Model.
Agendas are an important tool for your student's success and are are graded weekly. Please monitor their agendas.
** If your student does not have Dr. Blackburn this semester or the next, they need to start FCAT Explorer at home. Use the FCAT Explorer page to learn how to sign in.
Our 8th Science teachers are constantly taking classes and workshops to provide our students with the latest educational concepts.
This year Mrs. Booth and Mrs. Marovich participated in the USF STEM project in which they completed 12 hours of graduate level courses in STEM Education.
In the summer of 2011, Mrs. Booth, Mrs. Marovich and Dr. Blackburn were able to attend the NASA Space Camp.
